Destiny 2 DLC Will Add Heroic Adventures

Destiny 2 DLC Will Add Heroic Adventures

During this week’s Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris livestream, Bungie gave fans their first look at some of the new activities coming with the DLC expansion. Specifically, the devs showed off a new Public Event type in the Infinite Forest as well as a new Adventure.

While Adventures seemed like a good addition to the Destiny 2 grind, the rewards tied to those side quests never felt worth the effort. Sure, players could get a little extra lore from completing Adventures, including references to the Emperor before the Leviathan Raid launched, but they never truly felt worth doing.

In an effort to help make Adventures better for players, Bungie is adding a new Heroic tier to the activity. The developers wouldn’t say too much about how a Heroic Adventure differs from a regular one, but Community Manager Deej did reveal that these more difficult quests would have modifiers. And these modifiers will change every time a player completes a Heroic Adventure, which should encourage more replayability.

The Adventure that Bungie had on display showed the fireteam exploring a part of the Infinite Forest that features different time periods: past, present, and future. The trademark design of the Vex architecture featured heavily in the Adventure, but there were some new twists as well.

One thing that Bungie noted is that the Infinite Forest will see the Vex fighting the Hive for the first time. Previously the two iconic races of Destiny had never truly clashed with each other, but thanks to the time-travelling capabilities of the Infinite Forest Bungie can finally show players a battle between the two.

But the real question on most players’ minds was just how rewarding these new Heroic Adventures would be. Since only a normal Adventure was on display it wasn’t possible to truly glean whether these would be worth the effort, but the sad reality was that basic Adventures haven’t changed much.

In fact, for as much as Bungie was talking about how rewarding content is in Curse of Osiris, that was never truly on display. There was some talk of adequately honoring a fireteam’s effort, but that meant getting two Mercury Tokens instead of two and a rare Engram. We’ll see if Heroic Adventures are any better when the DLC expansion releases early next month.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris releases December 5, 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
