Bungie: Destiny 2's New Powerful Exotic is Bugged

Bungie: Destiny 2's New Powerful Exotic is Bugged

Update (12/7/2017 5:25 p.m. PST): Bungie announced in their weekly blog that a fix to Prometheus Lens will be included in the planned Update 1.1.1, being released on December 12.

Original Story:

Destiny 2‘s newest exotic trace rifle, Promtheus Lens, is undoubtedly the new King of the Crucible. It didn’t take long after the launch of Curse of Osiris to discover just how quickly it can burn through opponents in PvP. It has officially been labeled by fans as overpowered, and developer Bungie agrees.

In a tweet today, Bungie community manager, DeeJ said that Prometheus Lens launched in Destiny 2‘s Curse of Osiris expansion with a bug causing it to be much more powerful than the designers intended. Even at its worst, Prometheus Lens is capable of outgunning any opponent 1-to-1, and can make quick work of a full fireteam in capable hands.

As stated in the tweet, Bungie will discuss the issue and present solutions in Thursday’s weekly “This Week at Bungie” developer update. Players will have to wait until then to find out exactly what Bungie plans on doing about the weapon’s extremely quick time-to-kill time in the Crucible. Some want Bungie to cancel Trials of the Nine but considering this will be the first weekend for the event after Curse of Osiris’ launch that seems unlikely.

Bungie does have a planned patch coming next Tuesday, January 12 with a number of updates. It’s possible that the developer could slide a fix for Prometheus Lens into that patch; however, it might be too late for such a fix. Depending on what it will take to fix the exotic trace rifle and if that will require a patch that needs to go through certification on consoles, it might miss the January 12 patch.

Veteran fans are calling the Prometheus Lens Destiny 2‘s version of the Vex Mythoclast (or worse), an extremely powerful exotic from Destiny 1 that for a while made quick work of players in the Crucible. The Prometheus Lens’s perks seem to be creating the issue, although it’s unclear until Bungie clarifies exactly what is going wrong with the weapon. Those perks cause its beam to generate a heat field that grows as it continues to fire, while also refilling the weapon’s magazine. Either way, more answers are due to come on Thursday.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
