PoGO Developing Way to Let Players Add More PokeStops?

PoGO Developing Way to Let Players Add More PokeStops?

At the moment, Pokemon GO players are currently able to catch the fresh batch of Gen 3 creatures and explore the augmented mobile reality title’s new weather features thanks to an update that came out several days ago. Now, though, fans of the title are getting excited for another potential update for the game, as a job listing on Niantic’s official website for a full stack web engineer points toward the possibility of the developer working on a way that will let players add more PokeStop and Gym locations.

According to the description of the unfilled position at Niantic, those that apply will be expected to “build intuitive and beautiful web applications that let millions of users view and submit data on the world’s most interesting locations.” Of course, while the developer has multiple games that make use of real world locations, the explanation of the new full stack web engineer’s duties at least alludes to Niantic working on a system related to player-submitted PokeStops and Gyms in Pokemon GO, but stops just short of confirming it.

As of now, Pokemon GO fans are not technically able to submit locations to Niantic for potential inclusion in the ARG, as the developer actually relies on players of its game Ingress to submit new spots. Those that hit a particular level in Ingress can participate in “Open Portal Submission” windows, with Niantic then determining whether or not the submissions should go on to be added to both Ingress and PoGO.

Taking all of this into account, the prospect of Pokemon GO fans possibly being able to submit suggestions for PokeStops and Gyms is definitely an exciting one, especially when one considers the vast amount of players in rural areas who are constantly craving more to do in the game. Hopefully, Niantic will not only be able to find a way to allow Pokemon GO fans to submit locations, but also do so in a manner that won’t affect the game’s overall stability.

Pokemon GO is available now for Android and iOS.
